As a seven-year-old, I ran onto the field at the start of a John Player League match between Gloucestershire and Northants, offering Mike Procter a pencil and a scrap of paper. He looked at me and growled, “F off, little boy! We are here to play cricket!”
Mike Procter is someone I would not have wanted to upset, back in the day.
