In a win for Republicans, the US supreme court has put on hold a lower court ruling that Alabama must draw new congressional districts before the 2022 elections, despite the maps being decried as a textbook example of discrimination against Black voters in the US.

Monday’s supreme court ruling boosts the party’s chances to hold six of the state’s seven seats in the House of Representatives.
